News outlets are constantly predicting the future. In general, they offer bleak forecasts of world events, or divinations of how best-beloved political figures are going to redeem society. Quite often they are wrong in their prophecies, but the rapid news cycle means that the public is always looking forward, and never holding the wild claims accountable. The "failed prediction" category is designed for looking back.
Last week, the world was predicting that Russia would attack the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant around July 4th. This blog covered the subject briefly.
Ultimately, nothing happened, and the war continues. International regulators supposedly investigated the plant, clearing Russia of any possible self-sabotage, while still claiming that they needed more access (recall, the Ukraine was claiming that Russia had planted bombs on the roof of the building).
Reality is constantly unfolding, and anything can happen at any time; however, the prediction in this case was very time-bound, and must be labeled as a failure.
